Hello World!
Greetings, Dear Reader. You would not believe the path that has led to the creation of the blogging component to Lurchbox. Well, you probably could given you're probably here because you have some familiarity with me and my proclivities. I enjoy words.
I also "suffer" from logorrhea. Not like in a clinical way, but I do tend to go on and for some percentage of the population it may as well be clinical. I've found that a lot of folk just do not have the stamina or attention span to sit through more than about five words strung together; certainly not five sentences. But, if you're still reading this, you're not amongst that demographic.
Finally, we come to my utter dissatisfaction with the popular social media sites. On the one hand, they're not conducive to long-form writing. They're all about minimal requirements for maximal engagement. A post like this would get passed right over by "the algorithm", even if my social graph included folk like yourself who are okay with concepts like reading and vocabulary as desirable pursuits.
The second piece of the social media puzzle is that I've tried to maintain a more neutral position given the various platforms' eagerness to ramp up engagement through conflict; or at least through hot takes. I, myself, am exceedingly fond of sharing hot takes. I am also strongly opinionated on a variety of subjects. However, in an attempt to maintain some comity with people in my social graph, I've made a good faith effort to elide political commentary or otherwise engage in anything beyond the daily banalities. I'm not necessarily denigrating the daily banalities, they serve their purpose and the sense of community is stronger for them.
However, I have decided that the world today can no longer take my silence as tacit agreement with the myriad horrorshows it seems hell-bent on pursuing. The compulsion to rail against the world today is so strong that it nearly overwhelmed my commitment to comity on social media. The compulsion led me to invest scores of hours developing a blogging extension of my Lurchbox project. It was going to happen eventually as Lurchbox is the weapon I'm building to fight my personal war against enshittification. The timeline was just expedited by about a year.
For the moment, I just wanted to test out this platform. I will owe you some additional explanations and recaps in the near future. Either way, I've made a five year commitment in the form of a domain reservation for ditchchicken.quest. So let's see how this ages I guess.
Thanks for reading. More to come.
